(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Six months of work by more than 200 contributors culminated in the launch of WordPress 3.0, the thirteenth major release of the popular content management and blogging platform.
According to the Thursday announcement , major new features include a new default theme called Twenty Ten, and new APIs that let theme developers easily implement custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus (no more file editing), post types, and taxonomies. WordPress has also integrated “MU” or multi-user functionality, letting developers and network admins run as many as ten million blogs from the same installation. The user interface has also been streamlined and provides contextual help on every screen, as well as bulk update capabilities.
According to a ComputerWorld pre-review of WordPress 3.0-RC3-15257 , “the new version abounds in other new features while retaining the user-friendliness that has set WordPress apart from open-source alternatives Drupal and Joomla.” The review makes special note of the WordPress
